Day 2 – At What Age Did You Start Using?

#BeTrueToYou 157-day no make up Challenge #Day2

I started wearing makeup when I was 18 years old, a bit late for the average female. Most girls beg their parents to let them start using around 12 or 13. I was never that girl. Beauty pageant contestants, models, and actresses may even start wearing it as toddlers and infants because of their constant presence in front of the camera.

It is a controversial issue that parents fall on either side of. I don’t have any children, but I would feel uncomfortable seeing my 13-year-old daughter wearing makeup, let alone my 2-year-old! However, I do recognize the importance of makeup for pageant contestants and actresses alike. You want to look your best when you are on stage or being photographed or filmed.

I imagine the longer you use makeup, like any drug, the harder it is to stop using. Many people would probably ask, “why would you stop using makeup in the first place?”

Well here are a few reasons of mine:

I began this challenge because I wanted to prove to myself and others that natural beauty is true beauty. It is when we show the most honest and vulnerable forms of ourselves is when we discover who we really are.

Even after only the second day of the #BeTrueToYou Challenge, I am noticing the benefits that come with not wearing makeup. To name a few…

1. No Raccoon Eyes!

One of the biggest problems I faced when wearing mascara and eyeliner is when I have a long day like today, I sweat or tear up, and my eye makeup starts running. Unless I go to the bathroom or check a mirror periodically, I won’t realize how long the makeup has been all over my face. It’s a pain in the neck and very unattractive!

2. No Lipstick on the Collar!

Okay, maybe not literally, but I’ve noticed that I don’t have to worry about smearing my lipstick when eating, drinking, or wiping my mouth. Out of habit, I found myself dabbing the corners of my mouth with my napkin at lunch until I realized I could wipe my entire mouth like a human being without fear of smear! I miss having pink, glossy lips though.

3. Clean Pores!

My pores haven’t felt this clear in a long time. As a substitute for the makeup I would normally apply, I am using AVEENO facial pads to cleanse and moisturize my face. After using it, my skin immediately feels refreshed and rejuvenated.

Jennifer Aniston was right, HYDRATION IS IN!!!

This is just the beginning but I feel I am off to a great start. It is definitely going to take some getting used to because I have to break my routine in a major way, but so far no real complaints.
