Day 46 – It Keeps the Skin Tight…

#BeTrueToYou 157-day no makeup challenge #Day46

Anyone who’s seen the movie Boomerang starring Eddie Murphy remembers Eartha Kitt’s role as the sexy cougar, Lady Eloise. In this scene above, Lady Eloise offers Marcus (Eddie Murphy’s character) some beet juice. When he declines, she responds with the line, “It keeps the skin tight.”

I don’t know if anyone else has ever wondered if there is any truth to this statement. Well, I decided to look into it. Turns out, beetroot and beets have a number benefits for your body, skin, and hair. It works by drinking as a juice or applying it directly to your face.

Here are some of the skin benefits of beets:

1. Clears the Skin

Drinking beetroot juice regularly is beneficial in the prevention and cure of skin inflammations like acne. It works to prevent pimples and breakouts.

2. Removes Toxins

It purifies the blood from within and cleanses toxins and excess water from the body, imparting a healthy glow to the face.

3. Replenishes the Skin

Applying beet juice on the skin will keep the skin hydrated. Regular consumption will give you a fair and glowing complexion.

4. Protects against Aging

Since it has powerful antioxidants, it benefits the skin and protects it from premature aging by neutralizing free radicals effects. It also works as an anti-ageing substance and prevents wrinkles and fine lines. It also protects against sun burn and skin cancer.

Carrot and Beetroot Face Mask Recipe (caution, applying beetroot directly to the face may cause your face to turn pinkish):

  • Mix 1 tablespoon of carrot juice with 1 tablespoon of beetroot juice.
  • Apply it all over the face with a cotton ball.
  • Leave it for 10 minutes and then wash off.

So I guess Lady Eloise was right. Beet juice not only “keeps the skin tight” but also battles skin cancer, prevents hair loss, and lowers cholesterol.
